October 13 Bali tripWent for a short holiday in Bali...6days/5nites. At the end of the trip, I thought to myself that I should have stayed longer. There's still so much to see and a really good place to relax. Food is still better in Thailand!!! Maybe, I find Indonesian food too similar to Malaysian food except its a bit too sweet at times. But I have to say that the fried crispy duck is really good. You got to go to Ubud to eat it at the Dirty Duck restaurant. The restaurant is a place of its own with padi fields and lotus pond surrounding it. Many tourists from all over the world and Jakarta come over to Ubud to try this dish as I have been told by the tour guide! Among the Indonesian food I tried were their nasi goreng (fried rice), nasi champur ( mixed rice) where you get served with white rice, beef rendang, curry chicken and some vegetables, mie goreng (fried noodle) and one dish I really wished I had not tried was the cashew nut with chicken ..... ha ha I can cook better!
YES!! You can go to Black Canyon Coffee if you are longing for something Thai. It is located at the Discovery Mall or better known as Centro.
Among the places I went to see were Ubud, Tanah Lot, Lake Bratan, Uluwatu and so many other temples which I have forgotten their names!! When I was in Ubud, I feel like I was in Chiang Mai. There's a lot of familiarities.
The beaches in Kuta and Legian are good for surfers and you don't find anyone swimming there as the wave are too strong. If really want to swim in the sea, then head to Nusa Dua and Sanur but these areas are the more expensive areas.
Unless you are into handicrafts, then shopping is good in Bali. Otherwise, there's nothing to shop here!! Everybody in the markets sell the same stuff!
But I will still go back again as its a good place to relax and chill out at the beach. Hotels are cheap ... food not too cheap though.
See my photos as they say....a picture paints a thousand words! September 02 BALI!!Yes....Bali is my destination for the month of October. Read some travel forums on Bali and came across travel warning from Australia and New Zealand!! What!!!! To hell with all that... I am heading there. If I have to die...I will die anywhere. I am not going to let the terrorists win the war! June 11 Bangkok again..heheYes, I was in Bangkok again. Never seem to be tired of the place. I got the chance to go to the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale expo at the Queen Sirikit Concention Centre. There were so much food to buy and eat. And I can say they were all very colorful! The people selling the foodstuff and crafts were all dressed up in their native dress. Pity I missed out the Royal Barge rehearsal. Check out my photo album to see the colorful pics of Bangkok.
This trip, I took a river taxi to Pak Klong Talad to have a look at the flower market. Got there early morning and had to chance to see so many trucks selling flowers and vegetables. The roses were so cheap! Had wanted to buy a big bunch (only bht150) but then decided not to. My hotel room would have looked like a funeral parlor with all the roses!
I think I have 2 more trips to Bangkok for this year! I think I just can't get enough of that place!
Yes....to the King of Thailand on your 60th Corononation Anniversary....Maybe you have many many more healthy and happy years to rule your beloved country! Long live the King of Thailand!!
Note: No more queues at Roti Boi in Bangkok... haha guess everyone got tired of it after all. When things are new, everyone wants to try. April 30 Bali beckonsBali beckons ??? Saw these beautiful photos of Bali. Too many people says its paradise. Well, maybe I should start making plans to have a look at the place myself. Problem is...whenever I try to book a flight to Bali, I end up booking a flight to Bangkok.. ha ha ha. But honestly, its so scenic and heavenly beautiful.April 16 Roti boy crazeWas just reading the online Bangkok post "Real Time" and happened to come across an interesting article on the Roti Boi craze in the Thai capital. Would you be crazy enough to queue 2hr 30mins to get the buns? Ha ha definitely not me but I guess the heavenly coffee aroma of the bun just too good for them to resist.
According to the report the Siam outlet, produces about 1400 buns in an hour and that just couldn't cut down the queue.
Another interesting thing to note that you can find guys standing around Siam Square selling blackmarket original Roti buns!!! These guys buy them at bht25 each and resell them at bht30-35!! Talking about opportunists!
Here's another .... People who refuse to queue hire messengers to queue for the buns! Rotiboy buns has also become a market tool. Firms gives the buns to customers to express their thanks!!
One thing the report did not mentioned was the closure of Rotiboy outlets in Singapore! There are no queues in Malaysia either....the buns are always waiting for you. I think the only outlet that might have a queue is at KLCC. Time will tell if the Thais will get enough of the buns.
Oh..perhaps on my next trip, I should buy some Rotiboy buns and sell to the Thais or give them as presents!! He he..buy in Malaysia for bht15 and I sell them at bht30...wow maybe I can get rich!! March 29 Anti Taksin marchThe anti Taksin protesters have reached Siam Paragon. Estimated to be more than 100,000 people. The roads all closed and poor shopoholics have no place to shop!! Ha ha....when will all this end? Can you imagine if you are in Bangkok for a holiday and dream of visiting Siam Square and Siam Paragon to shop? March 28 Gutsy ladies!According to a Thai newspaper report, Taksin on Saturday visited Silom area for his election campaign. While there, a few ladies shopkeepers came out and shounted at him "TAKSIN GET OUT!!". Pretty brave for them to do that to a PM. If it happens in Malaysia, God knows what will happen to them.
On the other hand, you guys out there should beware if they have beautiful daughters. If they dare to shout at a PM, what would they do to their son in laws....LOL!!! Oh not forgetting the girls too.....you wanna have a shouting match with your mother in law??? February 27 Trip to SporeWent to Singapore by bus during the weekend. Really surprised how convenient snd economical it was to travel by bus. Its less stressful than flying where you have to travel to the airport and then be there at least 45mins before departure for check in. The bus leaves from Petaling Jaya and its only less than 10mins drive from home. The bus arrive at the city centre in Singapore. Better stick to travelling by bus!!
A pity that I don't have much time and money to shop. There wasn't much sales going on but the stuff looks tempting! Bought a pair of Gstar jeans from the money I saved on staying in a hotel! Stayed at my cousin's place and that saved me at least SGD200 if I had chosen to stay at a 2-3star hotel. Yes, I seem to find hotels in Singapore so much more expensive when compare to hotels in Bangkok and in KL. Hotels rate wasn't that high a few years back.
Got to go back when they have their Great Singapore Sale! February 19 Bangkok 2006 part2Back from Bangkok. Actually what they say, its a small world, its really true. I bumped into an ex colleague and his gf while strolling at Suan Lum night market. He was stunned to see me and so was I. We don't meet each other at home and we have to meet in BKK. And to think of it, Suan Lum isn't small. Ha, I got free seafood dinner the next day from him. We went to Somboon Seafood at Suriwongse Rd. Been there sometime ago but this time, it was really crowded. Perhaps that was the reason for the food being not too nice. Should 've taken them to Baan Klang Naam at Rama 3.
The day we went for seafood was on Maha Bucha day...a holy day for the Thai buddhists. After the dinner, I took them to Patpong to look see. A big disappointment for them as all the bars were closed. No alchoholic drinks were allowed to be served on that day and bars n discos were all closed for the day. Luckily, the stalls were operating. And also that is one night I see so many Japanese men shopping.....they got no bars to go..ha ha.
See my album pics on some beautiful fountains at Siam Paragon. Come to think of it, its a great place to get out of the heat in Bangkok. Sit around and watch people go by. Most people are doing the same thing...window shopping and people watching and enjoy the free air cond!!
Wish I can afford to join California wow in Malaysia with international passport to use the California Wow at Siam Paragon. Would 've been wonderful to see how the Thais do their workout!!! He he...must be dressed in Nike and Addiidas or else would be out of place. Or most probably the crowd will be dressed in Gucci and Prada sportswear!! Next trip, will try to see if I can go in with a weekly pass...ie if it is affordable!
Well, back home and looking forward to my next trip. February 10 Bangkok 2006Pros and cons of travelling alone.....Bangkok Feb2006
Yes, I am again in Bangkok, city of angels..haha. Yesterday went over to check out Siam Paragon which is suppoed to be the biggest shopping mall in Asia. I don't really know if its the biggest but it does seem impressive. Anyone who likes to shop for big brand names will surely find this place a heaven for shopping. Many of the shops are still not opened and I see signs Dolce n Gabana opening soon. Yesterday, was ZARA opening and I was dressed in ZARA jeans n tshirts....hmmmm they should have invited me lah!! There was also a launch for Motorola new mobile.....many models and celebrities hanging around. Nice place to people watch and you get tto see model like chicks around shopping.
Ah talking about travelling alone.......I like being independent like waking up anytime I like and sleeping at whatever time without disturbing anyone. Anyone of you ever travelled with someone and here you are tired and trying to sleep and this other person will be like watching TV with the volume up! Going shopping with the right companion is ok but its so much easier to shop alone and you can spend how much time you like at a shop. Gee...makes me sound like a selfish person but I am just writing the truth. Travel with the right company is ok. I like travelling with people who really clicks, fun and not afraid of walking!!!
The only problem is when taking photos. I seldom have photos taken of me as I travel solo most of the time. Anyway, being not photogenic.........it doesn't really matter..haha..
Tomorrow is Saturday and I am looking forward to going to Chatuchak market again!! Got to bear the heat but surprisingly I don't find the weather too humid at this time of the year.
From Siam Paragon to Chatuchak Market......hehehe...jatuh standard!! But I still like it. |
